About Zarlino

Zarlino is made by Dorin Leahu, a young student from the Republic of Moldova.

Tired of playing guitar aimlessly, without any deeper understanding of what he was playing, he set out to build the resource he wished he’d had: a place where guitarists can find clear, reliable theory at their fingertips, all in one place and carefully organised. Every detail on the site is made the way Dorin would have wanted to be taught.

The name comes from Gioseffo Zarlino, the 16th-century Venetian theorist who played a major role in the theory of triads and modes, and in much of the Western harmony we still use today.

He never held a guitar like ours. But the ideas he wrote down nearly five hundred years ago are the same ones under your fingers now. That’s what this site is about: theory isn’t a set of old rules. It’s a tool for musical expression that has lasted for centuries.
